Clothing & Textile Collection Program
Clothing is now the fastest growing waste in the U.S. waste stream today. 85-90% of all these materials end up in landfills today, and we know the effects that landfills and their emissions have on the planet and climate.
By reusing or recycling old clothes, millions of pounds are kept out of the landfill and handled responsibly. Since 2014, nearly 5 million pounds have been diverted from landfills through the collection container program. Clothing is a light weigh item/material so 5 million pounds is something everyone should be proud, working together for our community.
Below are some notes regarding the clothing and textile collection program. The Village of Beach Park has a collection box at the Public Works facility, 40185 Glendale Avenue, accessible Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Pillows, Cushions, Rugs and Fabric pieces or scraps are NOT accepted. Shoes cannot be taken through the Clothing & Textile Collection programs and dropped in those containers. Shoes should be taken separately to a Reuse-A-Shoe drop-off location, which can be found at Reuse-A-Shoe Program | Lake County SWALCO, IL
