Tool Sheds, Storage Sheds, Playhouses and Similar Structures
Within the Village of Beach Park, one-story detached accessory structures with a floor area not greater than 100 sq. ft. (e.g. tool sheds, storage sheds, playhouses or similar structures) are considered exempt from general permitting requirements. Nevertheless, construction requirements for anchoring and zoning (e.g. number of structures and where they are placed) still apply. Therefore, in order to ensure that your proposed project meets said requirements, the Village of Beach Park offers a FREE permit review for anyone interested in installing a new detached accessory structures ≤ 100 sq. ft.
The above-mentioned structures have the greatest stability when placed on and anchored directly to a concrete slab (normally poured at least 4” thick with a 4” compacted gravel base) or concrete piers (normally poured at least 10” wide and 42” below grade with a 4” compacted gravel base). Alternatively, some people may elect to simply utilize compacted gravel and/or deck blocks as their foundation. If the latter options are utilized, please note that ground anchors placed at a minimum depth of 24” below grade are still needed to provide basic stability for these structures.
