This year, the Village will be kicking off a multiyear program to change out all water meter reading devices. The current water meter reading device is what transmits data from the water meter to the Village to record usage. The current system is obsolete forcing the Village to update. The new program will allow for faster, real-time daily meter readings throughout the Village via a cellular network.
The change out will occur over a 3-year period. Almost all current devices are located on the exterior of the homes. Change out in those locations will not require appointments. Staff will work through a neighborhood one house at a time to remove the old device and install the new one. If a current device is located inside the home, or if there is any issue prohibiting an exterior change out, the resident will be notified by a blue door tag requesting an appointment for access to enter the home.
During the change out, water service will not be disrupted nor is there a charge to the resident for replacement. Village employees will carry identification and will knock on doors prior to beginning work to keep the residents informed.
